About me
Lisa Nagel is an accomplished educational leader with nearly three decades in independent school leadership, including 14 years as head of school. She currently serves as head of school at Duke School in Durham, NC. Her work centers on the human dimensions of leadership—connection, discernment, and leading through complexity with clarity and purpose. Lisa leads strategic planning and builds systems that align mission, program, and practice. She has consulted and led presentations in nearly 100 schools across the U.S. and abroad, deepening leadership capacity, addressing conflict and advancing social-emotional learning and the pedagogy of listening. She recently led the completion of Duke School’s Center for IDEAS, home to the Educators Institute on the Project Approach. Lisa is a certified coach, serves on the NAIS Aspiring Heads Fellowship faculty, and is a trustee of the Center for Spiritual and Ethical Education. She holds degrees from Oberlin College and John Carroll University.
